About Acting Up Theatre,Inc.

What we believe

Who we are

Acting Up Theatre, Inc. began 11 years ago as a dream of our President, Davida Greene, and former Vice President, Lisa Kelly, to create a community theatre environment that would be safe and affordable for families of all ages to participate with.

We are a 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization headed by a board of Directors.

Our board members are as follows:

• Davida Greene: President

• Austin Kulp: Treasurer

• Holly Kulp: Secretary

• Laura Lenz: Music Director

• Rachel Stephens: Executive Administrative Assistant/Resident Composer.

Our productions are primarily run by Davida, Laura, and Rachel, along with a production team that is put together for each individual show.

Our main goal at Acting Up is to educate families and individuals on all the ins and outs of theatre production. “Theatre Instruction Through Production” is our motto and what we live by. Whether the desire is to perform or be behind the curtain, there is always a place for anyone who wishes to participate.

There is a cost to participate, but we strive to make it as affordable as possible. The cost is $50/person with a family cap of $100, meaning no family will pay more than $100. This covers insurance for the participants, as well as off setting the cost of specialty makeup, costume pieces, and a t-shirt of the production.

That being said, we have never and will never turn any family or individual away for inability to pay.

All of our members are volunteers – from our board to our production team – and do not receive monetary compensation for their work. Likewise, our ticket prices are $5/person online and $10 at the door, as well as inexpensive concessions. We have sought to keep our ticket prices low so that families can more easily attend the performances.

We are primarily an original works playhouse, meaning almost all of our shows are written and produced by our Writer and Composer team. We recently began performing some public domain shows, such as October 2017’s production of “The Importance of Being Earnest.” and March 2020’s “The Newly Married Couple.”

And while our shows are not always overtly Christian in content, we have sought to always honor and Glorify God in our messages and morals.

Our original works include:

  • Jack and the Beanstalk: The Musical

  • An Evening of Funny Fairytales: A Musical

  • Rumplestiltskin: The Musical

  • Sleeping Beauty: The Musical

  • Treasure Island: The Musical

  • The Pied Piper: The Musical

  • Around the World in 80 Days: A Musical Adventure
